5. ATF Form 4473 and Firearms Records
When you purchase a firearm, federal law requires the completion of ATF Form 4473 (Firearms Transaction Record) and a background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) or a state equivalent.
Form 4473 is completed and retained by the transferring FFL as required by federal law (currently, FFLs must retain these records for at least 20 years or until discontinuation of business, at which point records are transferred to ATF).
We may retain order-related information (excluding Form 4473 itself, which is held by the FFL) as necessary for our business records, customer service, warranty support, and legal compliance.
We do not have access to your NICS background check results beyond whether the transaction was approved, delayed, or denied.
